You may or may not have heard the news of a cat being found on the side of Interstate 90 in Southwest Minnesota on December 18, with his paws, nose and tail GLUED to the highway. To whomever this person is I say, you are an unfortunate person in society. Being a cat and dog owner my entire life, and an animal lover of all kinds, I am appalled at the thought of a person being so cold hearted that they would glue a helpless animal to the road in ANY condition, let alone the middle of one of the coldest winters we've had in a while.

There is now a reward from an anonymous Yankton, SD resident of $1,000 to whomever finds the person responsible for this.

As the nation celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr. day I look through the quotes of MLK and find one that I feel we can all learn from. It goes like this, "Success, recognition, and conformity are the bywords of the modern world where everyone seems to crave the anesthetizing security of being identified with the majority."

My personal take on this quote is that we as individuals should be just that, individual of ourselves. Whether it be your passion, your dress, or anything in between. If we are true to ourselves and don't let the norm of the day to day society affect how we portray ourselves then we as individuals have won. We have succeeded with whatever we set out to accomplish.

When people in need, need our help.

With what is now being called the greatest natural disaster since the Asian Tsunami of 2004, humanity needs to come together and help those in need. The incredible disaster that happened to Haiti this past week makes one look back at their own issues no matter how large or small they may be and realize there are those out there that have it much worse than we think we do. With deaths adding up daily, we need to take time out to volunteer or donate to those that can do more to help the people of Haiti in this tough time. I encourage everyone to text "HAITI" to 90999 to donate $10 to the American Red Cross to help aid the fine people of Haiti.
